What's your favorite Erasure song/album?

It's been too quiet in here... let's get a discussion going.

I saw Erasure with a number of friends when they did 5 shows in San Francisco last year. Walking over to the venue, we were discussing our favorite Erasure songs, and were surprised that we all had different songs as our favorites.

My personal favorite is: DRAMA. And I've had some recent drama in my life, and I keep catching myself singing this one from time to time.

And I guess it should come as no surprise, then, that my favorite Erasure album is: WILD.

Wild is a great album, but it IS pretty short. But the B-SIDES from that time! Wow! William Orbit's amazing remix of 'Supernature'. The Speak and Spell vocals and downright bouncy 'Sweet Sweet Baby'. The Soul Mix of 'Star'. The many great mixes of 'Blue Savannah'. *sigh*

This is also from the same time as Depeche Mode's 'Violator' (Wild was '89, Violator was '90), and DM had the best B-Sides ever during that album, with songs like 'Sea of Sin', 'Happiest Girl', and 'Dangerous'.

I agree with both above - Drama! is my all time favorite to sing, too. It's a fun ride.

But, to me, best in show goes to I Say I Say I Say. Why? Because that's when Vince finished his studio and completely geeked out on the analog, CV-based synths (NO MIDI!!!), creating some of the silkiest synthpop tones ever made.

That, combined with Andy's dialed back vocal approach, and the fact that they wrote the songs away from the computers, makes it the best in my mind from a songwriting and production standpoint.

HOWEVER. What album have I listened to with the most repeat plays? I thought it was I Say at first, but nope - it's Erasure (self-titled). I went through three (yes three) CDs on that one, wearing them out in my car. Not only are the songs great, but the extended mixes and atmospheric production values yielded nugget after nugget of ear candy, even after many listens.

        So for me it is:

        1. Erasure (album)
        2. I Say I Say I Say (album)
        3. Drama! (song)

Nothing like an answer to a question that was asked over a year ago, huh? So many of their songs are favorites for so many different reasons. However "Chains of Love" is still my favorite overall. When it first came out, some friends and I were driving and we pulled into the garage just as "Chains of Love" came on the radio. I made everybody sit in the car and listen all the way through.
