Even though I've seen Erasure 6 times now, I still almost pee'd my pants and busted out in tears when they took the stage for a free concert to wrap up San Diego's PrideFest this weekend. Took some clips with my phone and already others are popping up on YouTube. just search: San Diego Erasure. I swear they just get better and better.

What's your favorite Erasure song/album?

It's been too quiet in here... let's get a discussion going.

I saw Erasure with a number of friends when they did 5 shows in San Francisco last year. Walking over to the venue, we were discussing our favorite Erasure songs, and were surprised that we all had different songs as our favorites.

My personal favorite is: DRAMA. And I've had some recent drama in my life, and I keep catching myself singing this one from time to time.

And I guess it should come as no surprise, then, that my favorite Erasure album is: WILD.

Wild is a great album, but it IS pretty short. But the B-SIDES from that time! Wow! William Orbit's amazing remix of 'Supernature'. The Speak and Spell vocals and downright bouncy 'Sweet Sweet Baby'. The Soul Mix of 'Star'. The many great mixes of 'Blue Savannah'. *sigh*

This is also from the same time as Depeche Mode's 'Violator' (Wild was '89, Violator was '90), and DM had the best B-Sides ever during that album, with songs like 'Sea of Sin', 'Happiest Girl', and 'Dangerous'.

My partner and I just got our hands on the new Erasure album "Union ST"...a pretty good album....acoustic versions of some of their previous work.......I d have to admit that parts of it feel almost as if I am listening to a country album as opposed to an Erausre album!

If you get a chance to watch it. Erasure sings a song from their new album called "Boy". It happens somewhere in the middle of show. Being the awards are about 3-4 hrs long.

Also the sing at the closing credits "A Little Respect". But if you're looking for their signature techno beat, you will be disappointed. They sing both songs with acoustic guitars only. But I thought both of songs sounded nice.

GBH & Girls and Boys Halloween Bash in Freddy Krueger's House
with Andy Bell (of Erasure) Exclusive New York DJ Set
Monday October 31 at Lotus

Hosted by Filter magazine

This year will be our biggest Halloween bash in the history of GBH - to
be held Halloween night at Lotus. The club will be decorated as Freddy
Kruger's House (of Nightmare On Elm Street fame) and we'll be dressing
in theme...

And if that isn't chilling enough for you, the singer of the
internationally successful synth-pop duo Erasure, Andy Bell, is coming
to town to play his first ever New York DJ set for your delight and
entertainment.

Erasure (the synth-pop band that started out in the '80s and is still
going strong today) is made up of only two members - Vince Clarke (who
was a founding member of Depeche Mode) and Andy Bell. Together they
have been responsible for more hits than it seems proper for any one
band to have. In their illustrious career, they have given us such
classics as Oh L'Amour, Sometimes, Chains Of Love, A Little Respect,
Blue Savannah and too many more to mention (listen here). We are very
excited to have Andy spin for us.

There will also be DJ sets from Paddy Boom (of the internationally
famous, and filthily gorgeous band we are not allowed to mention), &
Alex English playing new wave, '80s, dance-rock and party classics in
the main room.
Downstairs in the lounge, $mallchange will be playing hip-hop, soul,
funk, r&b and classics
Meanwhile, in the Flower room, 33Hz will be DJing, joined by Mike
Canino (Tease) and Michael Hime (of Unknown People).

Your hosts for the evening will be... Tom & Alejandro, Dagny, Nico XO,
Noel, Tease and Unknown People

$10 advance tickets available on Ticketweb. Click Here.

Andy Bell in special performance at Mezzanine in SF

ERASURE’S ANDY BELL TO PERFORM AT MEZZANINE IN NOVEMBER

The dance floor king Andy Bell is coming to San Francisco’s Mezzanine to support his solo debut album Electric Blue, with DJ sets in selected cities. These gigs are non-performance, except for two, one of which will be Mezzanine, where he will perform a few songs from Electric Blue as well as a few Erasure classics.

As one of the first mainstream performers to come out of the closet, Andy Bell has been a recording and touring pop sensation since 1985 when he belted out an impressive rendition of “Who Needs Love Like That?” Musician Vincent Clarke soon teamed up Andy Bell and the duo formed Erasure. After countless hit albums and plenty of #1 hits, the band released their 2005 album, Nightbird. Soon after, Andy Bell released his first solo record, Electric Blue, an album which sees Bell out on his own.

Supporting Andy Bell at the Mezzanine show will be Postcoitus. With lyrics doting on relationships, fear, and (completely uninformed) abstract progressive theory, Postcoitus will be opening for Andy Bell with their Oakland-based dance music project.

Los Angeles-based band Viva K will open the show. L.A. Weekly raved about Viva K saying the band are "a fantastical, bohemian outfit of digital dreams.” Los Angeles’s Viva K will be kicking of the evening with vocals reminiscent of PJ Harvey-meets-Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and their completely unique electro-thrash sound.

I've been listening to Breathe (downloaded from the website) for a couple of weeks now, and it seems that the boys have rediscovered their flame. If this is what the rest of the new album is going to sound like,,....then I say bring it on!! My only complaint is that they aren't coming to Australia with their tour!!
What do you all think???

Andy Bell HIV+

It was publicly announced today that Andy Bell, lead singer for Erasure, is battling HIV. Here is a partial reporting of the internet news item:
"I found out I was HIV-positive in June 1998 when I had a bout of pneumonia in Mallorca, since then I have been taking combination therapy & I am feeling fine in fact I have never felt better," Bell said Tuesday in an announcement on the band's website.

"Being HIV. does not mean that you have AIDS. My life expectancy should be the same as anyone else's' so there is no need to panic," he tells his fans. "There is still so much hysteria & ignorance surrounding HIV & AIDS lets just get on with life i.e. making music, doing a live tour & generally having a good time."

Bell made the announcement in advance of a book by his long time partner Paul which details Andy's discovery he was positive. The couple felt that the subject should not remain a secret.

The book is due out next year.
